Six students at Florida A&M University have joined together to teach fitness as Fit6ix on three Saturdays out of the month for free. Fit6ix works to inspire others to ignite their desires for fitness.

These student leaders continue the program OUTWORK after the co-founders Pierre Alsint and Bruno Squires graduated this year.

In a previous Famuan article Alsint said, “We both enjoy the grind and want to share that same passion and grind with others. We are starting new virtual initiatives along with other fitness trainers to continue the fitness wave.”

The wave continues to grow larger by hosting more training sessions, social events and collaborations on campus. The leaders aim to represent consistency through fitness so more individuals may take part in a form of self-care.

Curtis Jones, a third-year psychology major at FAMU, joined the program’s mission as one of the Fit6ix leaders. Jones says he lets people know they are there to assess their fitness journey.

“Wherever you start you can get better at that point we accept everyone in. Even if you don’t work out every day or even if it’s your first time working out make sure everyone is accommodated.”

Leaders such as Jones want to promote and establish a healthy lifestyle in college. By getting students out of their dorms and apartments to join them at the Towers field they can begin to show them an active way of life.

“I live by the motto friendship is essential to the soul. Being a part of an organization or group in general and helping people out makes my life better,” Jones said. “I feel that bringing people in, making sure people are looked after, and making sure they feel welcomed makes me better. Why keep working out by myself when I can workout and inspire other students?”

Marcus Laneaut, a FAMU student and OUTWORK participant, said, “I work out every day, so when I saw a fitness group on campus I decided to go.

It was high energy and slightly competitive, which I enjoyed. It’s cool to see other people outside early in the morning working on themselves. More people should go because it’s easier to access than a gym sometimes,” Laneaut said.

FitSix will continue to grow on campus, spreading their appreciation for health and wellness.

“We don’t work out, we outwork,” is the Fit6ix motto.
