Florida A&M kept its home win streak alive this past weekend, defeating the University of West Florida 31-10. While fans gathered to cheer on the team, another group was keeping their dreams alive during football season. Local vendors play a crucial role in the excitement and camaraderie that surrounds the football season.

From tailgate parties to stadium concessions, their presence not only satisfies our taste buds but also supports our communities in more ways than one. Local vendors are often small businesses deeply rooted in the communities they serve. When you buy from them, you’re not just getting a steamy plate of crispy shrimp and fries or a cold beverage — you’re investing in your own community.

These vendors are your neighbors, friends and family members, and the money you spend with them stays within the community.

Football season is synonymous with indulgent foods and drinks. Local vendors offer a unique culinary experience that goes beyond the standard stadium fare. From gourmet sausages to specialty cocktails, they infuse creativity and local flavors into their offerings, elevating the game day experience for fans.

Dre Beas, founder of Trap Snackz, sells candy coated fruits and drinks. He says business has improved drastically over the years.

“This is my fourth year. The first year, I had high expectations, but every year after that has been a whole lot better,” Beas said.

Beas also cited networking as the main reason for his business’ success.

Nia Wromas, a senior at Florida A&M, says football games are where she finds her favorite local vendors. “I love supporting Black businesses. For me, it’s all about culture. They are only here for a few home games, then I have to wait until next year so I just take advantage while they are here,” she said.

Vendors also take full advantage of marketing and promoting their brands by using traditional and innovative strategies. Businesses can brandish large QR codes and social media usernames throughout the street, which allows fans to research and follow the brand without even purchasing. Local vendors provide employment opportunities within the community hiring extra staff to meet the increased demand, which can be a significant boost to the local job market. These jobs often provide flexible schedules, making them accessible to students, retirees and those seeking part-time work.

Football season can have a significant economic impact on a community, and local vendors play a pivotal role in this. They contribute to increased foot traffic in and around stadiums, benefiting nearby businesses such as hotels, bars and shops. This economic boost can have a ripple effect, leading to further investments in the local area.

Vendors bring communities together, offer unique culinary experiences, and create lasting memories for fans. Supporting local vendors during this season is not just about enjoying great food and drinks; it is about investing in your community and strengthening the bonds that make football season so special. So, the next time you are at a game, do not forget to grab something from your favorite local vendor because you are supporting the heart of your community.
