Following a bye week, the Florida A&M football team is gearing up to take on Troy University on Saturday.

The Troy Trojans are winless following losses to Nevada, Memphis and Iowa.

The Rattlers have their sights set on a solid performance against another FBS opponent. The team should feel fresh and focused, poised to unleash their full potential on the field.

FAMU is currently ranked 20th in the FCS. They hold a 2-1 record with wins over Norfolk State and South Carolina State and look to improve their ranking after this weekend.

FAMU has had a couple of miscues on both sides of the ball that have held them back from dominating through their first three games. FAMU quarterback Daniel Richardson says this bye week has helped the team hone in on their internal problems to get head coach James Colzie III his first FBS win.

“You are going into somebody else’s house,” Daniel Richardson said. “You got to take care of the football. That’s number one. And you know, just playing team football. You know, complementary football, offense, defense, and special teams. Taking it one play at a time and doing your job. That’s the main thing, doing your job.”

Despite Troy’s winless record, Colzie is not undermining his opponent. He has been preaching to his players this week, stating that the record does not reflect this team.

“They know the record that Troy has, but they have seen a team that just played Iowa,” said Coach Colzie. “They just went to Memphis, who just beat Florida State, right? They played a really good Nevada team. They are similar to us in that they have made some mistakes that have hampered them from winning the football game. I think our guys know we have an opportunity, but we must make sure we need to take care of things we need to take care of.”

With a whole week of film and preparation for defensive back, Deco Wilson will return to his old stomping grounds to put on a show for his home state. The details have been most important to Wilson throughout this week to get a victory over the Trojans.

“I get to go back home this week,” Wilson said. “It’s always fun to go back home and play. Preparation has really just been locking in on the small details this week. You know, trying to get back to the fundamentals and basics, you know, to have our best shot.

The game will begin Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. Fans can stream the game on ESPN Plus.
