The storm prediction center has placed majority of North Florida and South Georgia under a severe weather watch.
The City of Tallahassee’s Emergency Management Team expects the storm system to travel through Tallahassee overnight.
A forceful low pressure system along with a cold front is expected to move in, potentially causing damaging winds and tornadoes, according to Storm Prediction Center.
The Electric Utility response crews will be on duty overnight as the high winds can potentially down trees and cause power outages.
Sherri Luke, a retiree of the Florida A&M University Police Department emergency management team, advised students to stay inside of buildings and have a buddy system if traveling is needed. She added that students should remove all possible projectiles from the window.
Luke said students living in certain areas should take special precautions.
“If you are living on a lower deck that is prone to flooding, remove all cords and unplug all electronics that can surge,” Luke said. “Especially [students] living in McGuinn/Diamond and Truth Hall.”
