Starting off a little shaky, the Lady Rattlers basketball team pulled out a victory against the Lady Warriors of Webber University, 52-41.
Having an abundance of young players this year, the Lady Rattlers are off to a good start.
Florida A&M head coach, LeDawn Gibson, was pleased with the team’s victory, but knows they can do better.
“I told the girls a ugly win is better than a pretty loss any day, but I was unhappy with their performance,” Gibson said. “There is major more room for improvement.”
The player of the game was Khadejra Young. Young is a junior at FAMU and is excited about the upcoming season.
“I’m excited to grow,” Young said. “We are a young team this year, but this is only the beginning.”
After an early tied at 16, the Lady Rattlers didn’t look back as they led for the rest of the game.
The Lady Rattlers’ defensive effort started sluggish against the Lady Warriors until they came together to stall the momentum.
The second half was a different game as the Lady Rattlers’ defense kicked into gear.
Alumna and former Lady Rattler, Jasmine Grice, supported the team and celebrated with them in their victory.
“They are a really young team with great potential,” Grice said. “As long as they play hard and stick together they will have a great season.”
Next up for the Lady Rattlers will be another home game on Nov. 24th against the Troy University Trojan Warriors.
