ROC Promotions & Deidra “Dee Dee Roc” Fields held the third annual Black College Music Conference Thursday in Lee Hall auditorium.
Fields founded the BCMC in fall 2006 because she noticed there was a lack of opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in entertainment.
The BCMC is an one day academy for students to learn what they need to know about the entertainment industry.
WANM 90.5’s very own DJ Champ hosted the event.
The conference included some big names in the industry today such as Amir Windom, the Artists and Repertoire representative of Atlantic Records; C.P. Hollywood, a producer; Keith Kennedy, the pool director of TJ’s DJs; Kevin Cossom, songwriter/recording artist of Jive Records; Bigga Rankins, the vice president of Corporate Thugz Entertainment & Head of A&R; and Money Mark, a Songwriter/Recording Artist formerly of Slip-N-Slide Records.
The event opened with live performances from local artists.
The music conference gave artists a chance to showcase their music. The goal of the event was to educate. Students and artists about unfamiliar music industry careers besides the common ones like producers and songwriters.
After a few performances, the students got to ask the panelists questions about breaking into the entertainment world. Some students left the conference knowing how to obtain a career in the competitive field of entertainment.
