The new Wal-Mart in Tallahassee intends to be the No. 1 Wal-Mart in town and in the district, said Earnestine Webb, the assistant manager of the new branch on Lagniappe Way.
The Wal-Mart on Lagniappe Way is the fourth Wal-Mart built in Tallahassee.
Webb, the former assistant manager of the Tennessee Street Wal-Mart, said, “We have very high standards at this Wal-Mart and we anticipate the best.”
The new Wal-Mart, located on Mahan near Interstate-10, will open May 7 at 8 a.m.
“We’re far enough not to affect the customers of other Wal-Marts,” said Greg Coggins, store manager of the Lagniappe Way Wal-Mart. “However, other Wal-Marts may lose some customers because of the convenience to customers on this side of town. In addition, we plan to gain new customers as well.”
Tallahassee citizens in the Mahan area are excited about Wal-Mart’s new opening.
“I can’t wait until the new Wal-Mart opens up,” said Jacqueline Hill, 33, Tallahassee resident. “It will be very convenient for me. I know it will stay nice and clean and filled with new items and variety of items.”
In addition, some residents also believe this Wal-Mart is not like any other Wal-Mart.
“I didn’t know Wal-Mart was going to be there with my other favorite stores,” said Martha DeWitt, homeowner near I-10 and Tallahassee citizen. “Most Wal-Marts aren’t near other stores and this will be an advantage to shoppers.”
