The Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was selected to compete for a spot on “Oprah’s Big Give,” a new reality show airing on ABC. The show’s purpose is to change the lives of people in charitable ways and “to impact the fates and fortunes of unsuspecting people who are in for the surprise of their lives,” according to the show’s Web site.
FAMU’s Deltas will compete against the Kappa Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Florida State University. Both organizations were selected to raise money for non-profit organizations. The most profitable organization will go on to compete against other groups nationwide for a possible spot on the show.
Bethany Jones, the president of the FAMU chapter, said she is thrilled to have been chosen to compete.
“I’m ecstatic,” said Jones. “I feel it will not only be good publicity for the sorority but for the school as well.”
Jones said both Delta chapters will receive a monetary prize. WTXL News Channel 27 will be documenting the Deltas’ endeavors. For more information, read Wednesday’s The FAMUAN.
