Ambitious Girl by Boss Women Media made its way to the campus of Florida A&M University on Saturday.
The “Let’s make magic on the yard” event, hosted by Boss Women Media, took place on the quad with vendors and a panel of women ready to share their expertise on the entertainment industry and give the women of FAMU some inspirational words to keep going.
The panel of speakers included KJ Smith from BET Sistas and “Power Book III”, Raising Kanan and the CEO of Boss Women Media, Marty McDonald.
These women gave their insights into how to get into the entertainment industry and also some financial tips involving trading and bitcoin.
While making magic on the yard, you see almost everyone with at least one bag across their shoulders while walking around the event. Imani Walker, a first-year biology pre-med student from Tallahassee, said she gained some empowerment from Boss Women Media.
“I loved everything about this event today,” Walker said. “I liked the mini tables and the conversation with KJ Smith about being ourselves and becoming what we want to be.”
From hair care to financial tech companies, there were tables all across the quad with companies ready to give out information to the young women walking around.
Intuit, a company surrounded by user and user experience, came out to encourage the women to know their worth and add tax to that.
Stephanie, an Intuit university technical recruiter, felt the heat on the quad and the empowering atmosphere on campus.
“The highlight of this event was just being on this campus and seeing so many young Black girls interested in their futures,” Stephane said. “I would say this is one of the best I’ve attended this season.”
Wakati, a natural hair company created in partnership with FAMU, was on the scene giving out t-shirts and tote bags. It also brought out a couple of its products.
IndIa Gay, a second-year public relations student from Atlanta, represented Wakati as a campus ambassador for the growing company.
“I think this is great event for campus,” Gay said. “The speakers have taken their time to introduce knowledge to the youth but also gave us an opportunity to walk around and be introduced to companies that are offering scholarships, internships and free products.”
Ambitious Girl made its mark at FAMU and is on its way to continue its “Let’s make magic on the yard” tour with its next stop at Clark Atlanta University to encourage more young Black women to be ambitious.
